There comes a point in many people’s lives when a quiet question begins to surface.

It may arrive during a period of reflection, a life transition, or simply in the stillness of an ordinary evening.

The question is simple, yet deeply personal:

What is my purpose?

It is not always a dramatic moment. Often life continues to function as usual. Responsibilities are carried. Work continues. Relationships remain steady.

And yet somewhere within, there is a sense that life is asking something more of you.

Over the years I have seen many people arrive in Gozo during precisely this stage of their lives. Some come for a private session, some join a retreat, and others simply feel drawn to spend a few days on the island in reflection.

What they are searching for is rarely success.

More often, they are searching for meaning.

Purpose Is Rarely Found Through Pressure

When people begin looking for their life purpose, they often expect a clear answer to appear quickly.

But purpose rarely arrives in that way.

It does not usually appear as a sudden declaration or a perfectly defined career path. Instead, it tends to unfold gradually as we become more aware of who we truly are.

Purpose often reveals itself through curiosity.

Through the things that naturally draw your attention.

Through the subjects you feel compelled to explore, the conversations that energise you, and the ways in which you feel naturally able to support others.

In many cases, purpose is not something entirely new.

It is something that has quietly been present for a long time.

The Role of the Subconscious Mind

Part of the reason purpose can feel difficult to identify is that much of our behaviour and decision-making is influenced by the subconscious mind.

Our early experiences, beliefs, and conditioning shape how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible.

Through practices such as reflection, meditation, and hypnotherapy, people can begin to access deeper layers of understanding about themselves and their motivations.

When this inner awareness grows, direction often becomes clearer.

Purpose Is Not a Destination

One of the most important realisations is that purpose is not something you arrive at once and for all.

It evolves.

As we grow and change, our purpose naturally expands and develops.

At different stages of life, it may express itself in different ways.

For some people it may appear through creative work, teaching, or healing. For others it may emerge through supporting family, building community, or contributing to something larger than themselves.

Purpose is less about a specific job title and more about how you bring your natural qualities into the world.

A Final Reflection

The search for purpose is not a problem to solve.

It is a process of understanding who you are becoming.

And often, when you begin to listen carefully to your own life, the direction you are looking for gradually reveals itself.
