It's Never Too Late to Follow a Different Path

Aug 02, 2026

People sometimes ask me if I ever miss my previous career.

It's a thoughtful question.

For almost four decades, architecture and interior design were a huge part of my life. I built a successful business in South Africa, received industry awards, travelled extensively, and even had the opportunity to present three television series about creating beautiful homes.

From the outside, it looked as though I had everything I had worked towards.

And in many ways, I did.

I loved the creativity.

I loved designing spaces where people could live, work, and create memories.

But over time, something else began to grow quietly within me.

A different kind of curiosity.

A different kind of calling.

When Success Isn't the End of the Story

In 2006, I began studying hypnotherapy.

At first, it wasn't because I was planning to change careers.

I was simply fascinated by the incredible potential of the human mind and the profound ways in which people can heal and transform.

The more I learned, the more I realised that this wasn't simply another interest.

It was changing me.

I found myself becoming less interested in transforming physical spaces and more interested in helping people transform the way they experienced themselves and their lives.

I wasn't looking for a new career.

I was discovering a deeper purpose.

Listening to the Quiet Voice

One of the things I have learned is that our lives don't always change all at once.

Sometimes they change gradually.

An idea captures our attention.

A book arrives at the right moment.

A conversation lingers in our thoughts.

We begin asking different questions.

Without realising it, we are already moving towards something new.

Looking back, I can see that my own journey unfolded in much the same way.

The more I listened to that quiet inner voice, the clearer the path became.

It wasn't always obvious.

It wasn't always comfortable.

But it always felt true.

A Leap of Faith

In 2018, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life.

I left South Africa and moved to Gozo.

People often ask whether I was frightened.

Of course I was.

Any meaningful change brings uncertainty.

But alongside that uncertainty was something stronger.

A deep sense that this was exactly where I was meant to be.

Gozo offered something I had been searching for without fully realising it.

Its peaceful rhythm.

Its rich history.

Its natural beauty.

Its sense of timelessness.

It felt like the perfect place to create a space where people could slow down, reconnect with themselves, and discover what was possible when they stepped away from the noise of everyday life.

The Greatest Privilege

Today, one of the greatest privileges of my work is welcoming people from around the world.

Every person arrives with a different story.

Different experiences.

Different hopes.

Yet they all share something in common.

They are seeking something that cannot be measured by success alone.

Some are looking for clarity.

Some are healing from loss.

Some are preparing for a new chapter.

Others feel called to learn the powerful tools of hypnotherapy so they can support the transformation of others.

No matter where they begin, I am continually reminded that the most meaningful journeys are rarely about becoming someone else.

They are about becoming more fully ourselves.

Your Story Is Still Being Written

Perhaps one of the reasons I feel so passionate about this work is because I know what it feels like to stand at a crossroads.

To wonder whether it is sensible to follow your heart.

To question whether it is too late to begin again.

If there is one thing my own journey has taught me, it is this.

Life doesn't ask us to have everything figured out before we take the next step.

It simply asks us to be willing.

Willing to listen.

Willing to trust.

Willing to take one small step towards the life that feels true for us.

Sometimes that single step changes everything.

A Gentle Reflection

Is there something you have been quietly dreaming about but have convinced yourself is no longer possible?

Perhaps it isn't a new career.

Perhaps it isn't a move to another country.

Perhaps it is simply giving yourself permission to begin again.

Whatever it may be, don't dismiss the quiet voice within you too quickly.

It may be showing you the beginning of your next chapter.
