Past Life Regression: Are Some Stories Carried by the Soul?
Jun 21, 2026Have you ever met someone for the very first time and felt as though you had known them forever?
Or stood in a place you had never visited before, yet somehow it felt strangely familiar?
Perhaps you have carried an unexplained fear that has never made sense. A fear of deep water. Flying. Fire. Public speaking. A fear that seems far greater than anything that has happened in your life.
These are the conversations that often begin in my clinic.
People rarely come to me asking for Past Life Regression because they are simply curious about a previous lifetime.
They come because something in their present life no longer makes sense.
A relationship that keeps repeating.
An emotion they cannot explain.
A fear with no obvious beginning.
Or a quiet feeling that there is a deeper story waiting to be understood.
It Wasn't Hypnotherapy That First Made Me Ask These Questions
Long before I became a Transpersonal Hypnotherapist, I spent more than thirty years as an interior designer in South Africa.
One of the things that fascinated me wasn't simply how people decorated their homes.
It was what they were naturally drawn to.
Long before Pinterest, Instagram or the internet influenced our choices, I had clients instinctively creating Jacobean interiors, Louis XV drawing rooms or French Provincial homes.
Many had never studied these periods.
Yet somehow they knew them.
I often found myself wondering...
Why this century?
Why this country?
Why did these places feel so familiar to them?
Looking back now, I realise those questions quietly led me towards the work I do today.
The Woman Who Was Always Trying to Save Someone
One client came to see me feeling completely exhausted.
She had spent years working harder and harder to keep her family financially afloat. She constantly felt responsible for everyone and carried an overwhelming fear that everything would collapse if she stopped.
During her Past Life Regression, she experienced a powerful scene where someone she loved drowned despite her desperate attempts to save them.
Whether we understand that experience as a symbolic journey of the subconscious mind or as a memory carried by the soul is a deeply personal choice.
What fascinated me was not whether it could be historically proven.
It was what happened next.
As we explored the experience together, she suddenly looked at me and said,
"I've been trying to save him all over again."
The person she had tried so desperately to rescue in her regression was now her husband.
In this lifetime she wasn't trying to save him from water.
She was trying to save them from drowning in debt.
For years she had carried the same emotional burden, repeating the same pattern without ever understanding why.
She left that session with something she had not experienced for a very long time.
Not all the answers.
But clarity.
And sometimes clarity changes everything.
Is Past Life Regression Real?
This is probably the question I am asked most often.
After many years of practising Regression Therapy, I have become less interested in proving whether a regression is historically accurate.
What interests me is something far more important.
Does it help someone heal?
Does it bring understanding?
Does it help them release fear, guilt or emotional pain they have carried for years?
Because healing is real.
Peace is real.
Insight is real.
Whether the experience is understood as an actual past life or as a symbolic language of the subconscious, what matters most is the transformation it creates in the life you are living today.
More Than Curiosity
For me, Past Life Regression has never been about escaping reality or becoming fascinated with another lifetime.
It is about understanding this one.
Sometimes the stories we discover offer a completely new perspective on our relationships, our fears, our purpose and the choices we make every day.
Sometimes they simply help us understand ourselves with a little more compassion.
And perhaps that is enough.
A Gentle Invitation
If you have ever found yourself wondering why certain patterns continue to repeat, why particular places feel like home, or why some fears seem older than this lifetime, perhaps your curiosity is inviting you to look a little deeper.
You don't need to believe anything.
You simply need to be open to exploring.
Sometimes healing begins not when we find new answers...
but when we remember something our soul has quietly known all along.
