Why Your Soul Knows It's Time for Change Before Your Mind Does
Jul 05, 2026Over the years, I have welcomed people from many different countries into my retreat in Gozo.
They arrive with different stories.
Different careers.
Different hopes.
Different reasons for coming.
Some are navigating a difficult chapter in their lives. Others have achieved everything they once dreamed of and yet find themselves wondering why something still feels missing. Some simply know that life cannot continue as it has, even if they cannot explain why.
Although every journey is unique, I have noticed something they all seem to have in common.
Long before they booked a retreat or reached out for support, there was a quiet feeling within them that something needed to change.
It wasn't loud.
It didn't arrive with dramatic certainty.
It was more like a gentle whisper that became harder to ignore.
I have come to believe that this whisper is one of the greatest gifts we can receive.
The Quiet Voice We Often Ignore
Life has a way of becoming busy.
There are responsibilities to meet, people to care for, careers to build, and expectations to fulfil. Days become weeks, weeks become months, and before we know it, years have passed.
In the midst of all that busyness, it is easy to lose touch with ourselves.
We continue doing what is expected of us. We care for others, solve problems, meet deadlines, and keep moving forward.
Yet beneath the surface, there may be a quiet knowing that something no longer feels quite right.
The mind often tries to explain it away.
"You're simply tired."
"You should be grateful."
"Everyone feels like this."
Perhaps those thoughts are true.
Or perhaps there is something deeper asking for your attention.
When Life No Longer Feels Aligned
One of the greatest misconceptions about transformation is that it only becomes necessary when life falls apart.
In my experience, that is rarely the case.
Many of the people I meet are successful, capable, and deeply caring individuals.
They have built meaningful careers.
Raised families.
Created businesses.
Supported countless others.
From the outside, their lives appear full.
Yet inside, they feel disconnected from themselves.
This doesn't mean they have failed.
It often means they have grown.
Sometimes we outgrow old beliefs.
Sometimes we outgrow roles we have played for many years.
Sometimes we outgrow a version of ourselves that once felt completely right.
Growth is a natural part of life, but it often asks us to let go of what is familiar before we can embrace what comes next.
The Soul Speaks Quietly
Our minds seek certainty.
They like plans, routines, and familiar ways of thinking.
The soul speaks differently.
It doesn't shout.
It gently nudges.
It invites us to pause.
To reflect.
To become curious about the life we are living and the life we may be longing to create.
That quiet nudge may appear as a longing to spend more time in nature.
A desire to slow down.
A curiosity about spirituality.
A recurring pattern in relationships.
Or simply the feeling that there is more to life than merely getting through each day.
Whatever form it takes, I believe it deserves our attention.
Not because something is wrong with us.
But because something within us is ready to grow.
Remembering Who You Have Always Been
One of the greatest privileges of my work is witnessing what happens when people give themselves permission to stop searching outside themselves.
As a hypnotherapist, I have seen time and time again that the subconscious mind holds remarkable wisdom.
Beneath our everyday thoughts are memories, emotions, beliefs, and inner resources that quietly influence the way we experience life.
Many people arrive believing they need someone to give them the answers.
More often than not, they leave having remembered something they already knew.
Not with their thinking mind.
But somewhere much deeper.
For me, this is what transformation is truly about.
It is not about becoming someone else.
It is about gently uncovering the person you have always been beneath fear, expectations, old stories, and self doubt.
Sometimes healing begins not when we discover something new, but when we remember what our soul has always known.
Why We Resist Change
If this quiet inner knowing feels familiar, you are not alone.
Change can feel unsettling.
Even when we know something is no longer serving us, we often hold on because it feels safe.
The unknown asks us to trust ourselves in new ways.
Yet I have found that the greatest risk is not change itself.
The greatest risk is ignoring the gentle voice within until we no longer recognise it.
Every season of life offers us an opportunity to grow.
Sometimes growth asks us to take courageous action.
Sometimes it asks us to let go.
Sometimes it simply asks us to become still enough to listen.
Creating Space to Listen
This is one of the reasons I created L'Għarix Temple Retreat in Gozo.
When I first arrived on this beautiful island, I was deeply moved by its peaceful rhythm, breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and timeless sense of calm.
I knew it was the perfect place for people to step away from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with themselves.
Within the walls of our beautifully restored 750 year old Gozitan villa and cave sanctuary, surrounded by nature and stillness, many people begin to hear that quiet inner voice more clearly.
Not because the retreat gives them all the answers.
But because it creates the space for those answers to emerge naturally.
Every retreat is thoughtfully designed around the individual because every person's journey is different.
Transformation is never about following someone else's path.
It is about discovering your own.
A Gentle Reflection
Before you continue with your day, I invite you to pause for a moment.
Ask yourself:
What has my heart been trying to tell me that my busy mind has been overlooking?
You don't need to find the answer immediately.
Sometimes the willingness to ask the question is where transformation begins.
